let's talk about tea tree oil
by: teresa

I would love to voice my opinion on tea tree oil. Apparently some do have allergic reactions. This is my story... I had this wee little sore between my upper lip and nostril... no worries.. just apply tea tree oil. At 5:30 a.m. this morning I woke up not feeling well... my eyes were swollen, the one side of my nostril was swollen and my lip, on the same side, was swollen and drooping... there were wee little blisters where this once teeny sore was.... I thought I would have to go to emergency....I am wondering how common allergies are to tea tree oil? My husband threw out the bottle in disgust...

I am so sorry that you have experienced a reaction to tea tree oil. Although fairly uncommon, it does occur, typically in less than 1% of the population.

I have a page written on the site that addresses Tea Tree Oil Allergy, and links to a study comparing the use of tea tree oil in various dilutions, from straight tea tree oil to 5% dilution.

Again, I am sorry that you have had a bad experience. Thank you for sharing this with everyone.
