I received this question by email, and thought it would make a great topic to comment on.
Here's the question.
"Hi my boyfriend has jock itch, will the tea tree oil be able to help him with this condition and if it is how should he use it.
Thank you for your help I really appreciate any advice you might be able to provide.
Tea Tree Oil as an Answer
This was my reply to a great personal care question, and perhaps it will help your situation as well.
I don't know if tea tree oil will help, but it might. To find out, buy your boyfriend your favorite body wash, or his, and add one or two teaspoons of tea tree oil for every thirty two ounces of body wash, make sure he washes the area at least once a day with the body wash while taking a shower or bath.
It's great for reducing the bacteria that cause body odor as well, and I have heard some people need less deodorant, or even none at all when using a tea tree oil body wash.
Does it Work?
Tea tree oil has shown itself a real help in controlling some yeasts, fungus, and bacteria. In fact, the usual cause of jock itch is tinea, a germ that can also cause nail fungus, and athletes foot.
Don't expect your itch to go away overnight, even with prescription or over the counter medicines, creams, or lotions. They all take time, some several weeks to several months to get the fungus under control. It may be just one more possibility, but tea tree oil for jock itch might for some folks.
There are some nutritional supplements as well that may help your body to fight off the infection. Look into herbs like oregano oil, pau d'arco ( also known as taheebo), and garlic. Ask a local health food store for more recommendations as well.
Anyone who has suffered with a persistent or chronic itch may have an answer to help you as well.

Organic Tea Tree Oil
Organic Tea Tree oil, harder to find, and more costly because it is produced in more labor intensive and lower yield plantations, can be used the same way as other fine quality tea tree oil.
Growing up in Laguna Beach, the hippies used to always say "Don't Panic, It's Organic". Great advice in a world full of GMO's (genetically modified organisms)
A product cannot carry the organic seal unless it's certified GMO free.
You can buy Organic Tea Tree Oil here, or search for your favorite brand on Amazon.Com
