How To Make Tea Tree Oil

by W.B.
(South Africa)

I received a Tea Tree tree from a friend 2 years ago as a gift. I would now like to make Tea Tree oil for my own use at home. How would i go about doing so?

Answer:
It is a simple distillation process. Gather together at a minimum several kilograms of fresh branches, leaves, stems, and twigs.

Chop them into fine small pieces, combine them in a still, and bring the mixture to a little below the boiling point. The essential oils will escape from the water, and re-condense as tea tree oil at the end of your stills condenser tube.

Allow any remaining water to settle out, and then store your several ounces of tea tree oil in either glass or stainless steel containers.

Of course, you could also save yourself hours of labor and fuel and simply buy a small bottle, using the leaves of your tea tree in a pleasant cup of tea, or to make an infusion for your bath.

Cheers
