Can tea tree oil be used on keloids??

I got the middle of my ear pierced last year & it formed a keloid.I really like the piercing, but I'm at my breaking point and am ready to take the piercing out. Some one at the shop recommended tea tree oil to put on it,but does it even work on keloids???

Editors Note: There have been anecdotal reports of success using tea tree oil, most often on keloids associated with piercings.

If anyone has or knows of reports or studies giving proof or suggesting the reliability of using tea tree oil for keloids, feel free to comment on this post.

In the meantime, it certainly can't hurt to use tea tree oil on a keloid, and may in fact reduce or eliminate the keloids if the anecdotal reports are accurate. If I had any keloids from a piercing, I'd certainly try it myself and see if it helped.
